For Lifecodes’ first Newborn Screening Webinar with Dr. Mike Hu, we learned about the purpose of newborn screening and how it’s conducted, as well as how it is implemented across the country today. Dr. Hu also gave insights about obstacles to implementing newborn screening today, and what we can do to help. 

About the speaker:

Dr. Zhanzhi (Mike) Hu, a parent to two children with rare genetic disorders, is an ardent advocate for newborn screening. He Co-founded Project GUARDIAN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to public health and spreading awareness about newborn screening.  Dr. Hu also works as an Adj. Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University where he conducts newborn screening related research projects.
